The only parameter was that every poster would be different but produced with the same principles. In other words, students would determine the input, and the machine would create the output. Here you can see Hyoun's idea. I think its fantastic. I really like how every poster will be unique. I love the freedom of the concept and I think the outcome is brilliant. I really like the contrast of the think bold marks against the faint scribbles as when the marker would be slowing down back to its position.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />

I stumbled across the realisation that there may not be silence, because there is always something going on. My evaluation from trying to capture the silence of the field, is that I found that nature was creating its own artwork, from natural sources such as rain, wind, dust, dirt e.c.t.</span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To develop this further I wanted to take it into the city. How could the city create its own artwork? I chose to work with the phrase 'I AM THE CITY', which also works with my comparison to natue, 'I AM NATURE'. I really like these phrases as it tells the reader that its made by the city/nature.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I experimented by making a stencil of the phrase out of sticky adhesive plastic, and placing it on a wall outside.</span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I stuck the stencil onto the wall using double sided tape so the sticky surface was facing outwards so it would hopefully collect dust, e.c.t.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The results of this wasn't to great. Next time I will aim higher and possibly place it ontop of a high building. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For my next experiment I again made a stencil of my phrase, but this time from card board. I then placed it Oxford road, as I know its busy.</span><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have always been fascinated in the way our perceptions change, and what influences that change. Usually more days then not.... I walk around our local field as we have two dogs. Im quite lucky as my garden backs onto a field. I usually work walk the same route each day which takes about 30 mins. It became intriguing to see what changes each day. There are to schools very close to the field so you do get a lot of youth on it. I began to record various changes on my route each day. This contained the movement of object that had been dumped for example an old mattress and a broken lawn mower. The mattress was interesting to record as it left behind marks of dry, worn, bald patches of grass. So you able to trace its exact last place.</span><br />

So this is a great example of silence.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande';">My chosen competition brief was the D&AD Don't panic one. The brief was to create an image for Dont Panic that captures the theme of the Resistance.</span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande';">Resistance is about going against the grain. Going left when everyone is going right. Resistance is radical for the short term, and revolutionary in the long. The brief asks us to capture on paper the resistance to the politics of existence. The politics of existence is awareness of the identity of particular aspects of reality. We are also asked to consider sub-aspects of resistance - protection and armour (both physical and mental) aspects of survival, hardiness and determination.</span><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I really like this idea, but it need developing as it looks to much like Stefan Sagmiester poster for AIG, where he asked an assistant to carve details onto his body and photographed the result. I think i run with this idea abit more by maybe experimenting with other parts of the body instead of using the torso, such as the legs or arms.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">DONT PAY LIP SERVICE<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What is lip service?........to express respect for something event hough it is the opposite of what one wants. To express loyalty or support for something insincerely (if you dont really care about politics, your just paying lip service to the candidate). Also to say that you agree with and support an idea or plan but not do anything to help succeed.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">'DONT SIT HERE AND PAY LIP SERVICE.... GET BUSY'<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here are a few designs for this idea:<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg403y66J5oagzJAqoPDYxCzFI_VW5cSilKwQjka9prFc_erzeeWxeZ3EAJ-MAEoJgH_Fipkjn6oV8Fucht_ceMoympQEN6UelQybBOmTq1thpT816rmPgN3rLq_4o7zmmZ4QA0z7G_wkEP/s1600-h/dont+panic+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg403y66J5oagzJAqoPDYxCzFI_VW5cSilKwQjka9prFc_erzeeWxeZ3EAJ-MAEoJgH_Fipkjn6oV8Fucht_ceMoympQEN6UelQybBOmTq1thpT816rmPgN3rLq_4o7zmmZ4QA0z7G_wkEP/s320/dont+panic+1.jpg" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Development:<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I really like these two phrases:<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">'your voive has the power'<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">'your voice could save lives'<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I thought of ways which I could illustrate the phrase 'your voice could save lives', and the idea of using a blood bag popped into my head.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I placed the text ontop of an image of a blood bag and it looked bland so<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I experimented at linking the text together on illustrator. I felt abit limited as my illustrator skills are abit poor..... but i gave it a bash and im happy with the results.<br />

Well to say the least Craig was one of the most entertaining visiting lectures I think we have had so far. Maybe it was because he's our age group..... or because he was brutally honest. He through alot of humour and wit into his lecture, which gave us all a laugh and defiantly held our attention.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">He told us all about the industry we are all about enter in literally the next 15 weeks. He gave us an account of the 12 things that he had learned in his first 12 months of being a designer. (He gave us all a pamphlet called 12 in 12, which was basically a sum up of the lecture). Things that he felt you could only learn through an active participation in the industry.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I found his lecture really helpful and really motivated me and helped me build a positive attitude for when i leave uni and go out into the real world.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">He showed us some of his personal work and projects that he has worked on at the chase.<br />

Some of his clients include Sony, Radiohead, Orange, Toshiba, Sony PlayStation and the BBC amongst others.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"> </span></span></span></span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">On the 6th of October he came to give us a lecture where he showed us some of his work. Below you ban see some of his sketchbooks from 1990-92 ( doodled a monster body of work).</span></span><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times;"><a href="http://www.johnnyhardstaff.com/images/sketchbooks/frames/sketchbook2_026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://www.johnnyhardstaff.com/images/sketchbooks/frames/sketchbook2_026.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">He also showed us some of his motion graphics and commercials. One of my favourite pieces was one of the Orange adverts 'orange paint'. Check it out.....</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Times, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mILY4hHQIOg">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mILY4hHQIOg</a><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"> I think the advert is very safe and intended. The message of all the paint over flowing is out of the vessels, is saying that Orange give you so much that you cant contain it.</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">( very much about corporate manipulation )</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">'Future of Gaming' add for Sony.<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDttY8-fLLk&feature=PlayList&p=157BB652E96220A0&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=22">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDttY8-fLLk&feature=PlayList&p=157BB652E96220A0&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=22</a></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">He told us that Sony hated this piece......but they put it places. </span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">I also really liked his Radiohead video 'spinning plates' <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qZbMNo-NWI">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qZbMNo-NWI</a></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">I love the complex graphics of the machinery and diagrams. The visuls are impressive and work really well with the track. The siamese twins in the video draw attention....... and almost make you feel uncomfortable.</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />

I love taking and collecting photographs, to me they are having an interest in in things as they are, and converting an experience into an image or a souvenir.</span></div>rachael.bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06429628780333785863noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7383410591984519675.post-20600644446884663252009-10-30T13:25:00.000-07:002009-10-30T13:37:46.139-07:00easy as 1,2,3<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB8Q63HKyEq-IvcD-Ns9-IQmnFZRf5BJBn5IjluMYU1m3ZCilYOyb7iMzr9pFLsd5D6YlF8KvJEDxAQa9dHbXBofvBixAcxUCnoXoy0UNY6q3_nSjDio6v3lcbok2X0LtBDJLVw1rqhg06/s1600-h/DSC03706.JPG"><img style="display:block; I didn't know what the project involved, all i new was to bring a camera, my sketchbook and wear warm clothes. We met in the studio at 10am where we was given a map of an area next to the university. We was put in groups of three and told to go and sketch, photograph anything that inspired us. So off we went.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">I began to draw as i was walking, not paying attention to detail, but concentrating on the lines and shapes of buildings, signs, and objects such as cars and grids, telecoms and post. I really liked the grid element because even though we had taken photographs of grids there was definite layouts of grids coming through in other images like the block of flats for example. So now i had my 10 elements, off i went to be constructive. I began to dismantle the grid layout in my head so i began to cut thin strips of paper to use as the lines and then small squares. I then placed these pieces into a clear paper wallet. shuck the wallet so the pieces would land randomly and by chance and placed it onto the photocopier. His work often has a raw, layered collage approach in graphics, installations and film and motion. I really like that his work is very experimental and diverse. Another one of my ideas was to use humours phrases to advertise ping pong, for example 'you up for abit of back and forth', this would make the viewer think because it could be interpreted in different ways. I then put the phrases with retro imagery which you wouldn't expect to see together. I felt this was a fun humours approach to the brief.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div><br /></div></div>rachael.bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06429628780333785863noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7383410591984519675.post-86124287809427839572009-04-17T05:18:00.000-07:002009-04-17T05:38:17.574-07:00student awareness<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmjp4Ysal5obgqRfTrNAQ8WPqUfZUcAyLgaAciRb6CIU5zpKaGuq7utVppO9hpZC8NFfEwvAKaBcy39VATNWvT_yu-KTdwkZ0SYkK3fA1KdPyeEtSJQJ52OCOQBfulXJSg6rJeDUdHK3rf/s1600-h/DSC02271+copy+copy.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmjp4Ysal5obgqRfTrNAQ8WPqUfZUcAyLgaAciRb6CIU5zpKaGuq7utVppO9hpZC8NFfEwvAKaBcy39VATNWvT_yu-KTdwkZ0SYkK3fA1KdPyeEtSJQJ52OCOQBfulXJSg6rJeDUdHK3rf/s400/DSC02271+copy+copy.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325638394138864962" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR2q2o5MT3G4f8oRCOyKh7hrA5fcQJgeL0kwYPFy9Uya4mEmQpaDjs8isp-1Kh_kEMGnnHvb1xhaSL4SnA3YcHSosnHYUHi4EbHrH55PPvZeoE10_BDDJjSi0kDEgrAG-QiJ27KW5zTwrp/s1600-h/thief.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR2q2o5MT3G4f8oRCOyKh7hrA5fcQJgeL0kwYPFy9Uya4mEmQpaDjs8isp-1Kh_kEMGnnHvb1xhaSL4SnA3YcHSosnHYUHi4EbHrH55PPvZeoE10_BDDJjSi0kDEgrAG-QiJ27KW5zTwrp/s400/thief.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325637001003422002" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVq7HwSl9Q2eFr2KHtkwuDsta88SlkIs13IF8NB46Q1S0WlpOMZ3EoYRcYXhz3GfnzfCJKjLPVi_4kHr7BnLT4zIMqRp-gdrp61YELj2tJqq5P3emh7wlMHwNFIdZgr0pkd9vuCBDrVqbK/s1600-h/NO+TEXT.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 283px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVq7HwSl9Q2eFr2KHtkwuDsta88SlkIs13IF8NB46Q1S0WlpOMZ3EoYRcYXhz3GfnzfCJKjLPVi_4kHr7BnLT4zIMqRp-gdrp61YELj2tJqq5P3emh7wlMHwNFIdZgr0pkd9vuCBDrVqbK/s400/NO+TEXT.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325636145918257330" /></a><br />a few of my ideas to help keep students safe.....im sure a few male students would look twice at this?<div><br /></div><div><br /></div>rachael.bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06429628780333785863noreply@blogger.com0
